New Technologies for CNC Turning Tools in Precision Parts Processing

In precision machining of parts, coating technology is the use of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or physical vapor deposition (PVD) methods to coat a thin layer (5-12um thick) of high wear resistant refractory metal compound on the surface of ordinary hard alloy blades to obtain tool materials.

After precision machining of parts, the surface of high-speed steel cutting tools is coated with a layer of 2-6um thick wear-resistant material with high hardness and high melting point (such as TN, TiC, AL2O, etc.), which gives the tool surface a much higher hardness than the base material, greatly improving the tool's wear resistance, increasing the tool's service life by 2-10 times, and improving machining efficiency by 50% -100%.

Due to the coating temperature of PVD process (300-500 ℃) being lower than the tempering temperature of high-speed steel, the hardness of the coated high-speed steel substrate does not decrease, and the geometric dimension accuracy of the cutting tool is controllable. Therefore, its development and application are rapid. The PVD method mainly adopts the TN coating process. The coating technology is applicable to the following cutting tools.precision machining

1) Complex cutting tools that are re ground along the front cutting surface, such as gear cutters, rolling cutters, forming tools, and pull cutters, mainly experience wear on the rear cutting surface. After re grinding along the front cutting surface, the coating on the rear cutting surface is retained, and the degree of reduction in tool life is smaller than that of re grinding along the rear cutting surface. Compared with uncoated tools, their life can still be increased by about twice, which is economically reasonable.
